Without realizing it, many of us know Bing Crosby’s voice exceedingly well. Crosby is one of the most famous holiday singers of all time, and his rendition of “White Christmas” is the best-selling single of all time, boasting over 50 million sales. His single “Silent Night” also makes this elite list, ranking as the third best-selling single ever with 30 million sales. This holiday season, pay homage to this American favorite by visiting the Bing Crosby House in Spokane, Washington.
The Bing Crosby House was built by the singer’s father and
two uncles in 1911. Bing spent his childhood living in the home, and now it
stands as a tribute to his memory with its collections. On the main floor, the
home presents the Bing Crosby Collection, which includes over 200 items of
significance. You can view Bing’s gold records, various trophies and awards,
and even the official Academy Award he received in 1944 for his performance in Going My Way.
A visit to the house with the family is the perfect way to
shed some light on your favorite Christmas songs and teach your children a bit
about America’s top performers of the twentieth century. Admission is free to
the public, and the house is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays
from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Here at George Gee Buick GMC, we hope your holiday season is
both merry and bright.
Fans of Mary Poppins will love the Mary Poppins 72nd Season Gala in Spokane, WA. Held from September 14 to October 14, this event will be held at the Spokane Civic Theatre from Thursdays to Saturdays until 7:30pm and Sundays until 2:00pm. As one of the most popular Disney movies of all times, Mary Poppins has held an important place in American culture and entertainment for decades.
According to Visit Spokane, the event celebrates Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s version of Mary Poppins to bring you a performance like never before. Following the eccentric—and magical—nanny Mary Poppins as she meets and cares for the Banks family, the story has a range of unforgettable song and dance numbers. Mary Poppins has been nominated for nine Olivier Awards and seven Tony Awards over the years.
The performance is bound to be especially popular with Mary Poppins Returns, a new Disney film set to hit theatres sometime in late 2018. Starring Emily Blunt, the new film is a musical fantasy directed by Rob Marshall and featuring truly great songs. Inspiring for children and adults alike, Mary Poppins is all about how “anything can happen if you let it.”
Hop in a new car from George Gee Buick GMC and visit the Spokane Civic Theatre to see the Mary Poppins Gala. Perfect for those looking for a night out or for those who simply want to have a fun time with the kids, the Gala is bound to be practically perfect in every way.
Of course, the Fourth of July festival at Riverfront Park is a classic. Spend the day snacking on food from local vendors, watching live music from noon all the way up until the fireworks start at 10pm, and grab a beer form the No-Li Brewhouse beer garden. Then watch the fireworks go up over the Spokane River Gorge!
If a festival sounds good to you, there are plenty going on in surrounding towns and cities, like the Kendall Yards celebration at Olmsted Brother Green Park, where you can eat local ice cream from Brain Freeze Creamery.
You can also try the Liberty Lake Fourth of July Celebration with live music from Robbie Christmas, or the Coeur d’Alene Hometown Fourth of July Celebration, which features an American Heroes Parade in the morning and festivities throughout the day until the fireworks start.
If you’d prefer an alternative to a festival, check out the Spokane Indians baseball game, which will end in a fireworks display over the stadium, or visit Silverwood Theme Park and spend the day on roller coasters before their own fireworks.
If you require a vehicle to get you to all of these incredible Independence Day activities, be sure to stop by George Gee Buick GMC.
